    Yeah, you've seen it on the yooo toobes. Roky Erickson, Tommy Hall and the boys managed to get on Dick Clark’s teevee show American Bandstand in 1965. Clark asks the young Rocky who’s the head of this band?

    “We’re all heads, Dick.”

    If you felt Apache Dropout got a little too candy-high on last year's Bubblegum Graveyard (they didn't) then you got to sink into the sorta-new Magnetic Heads LP. This is a collection of the groups first recordings, originally released on the Magnetic South label -- Cha Cha Cha in 2008 and Lysergic Caveman Choogle in 2009. Remastered from the tapes and cut to vinyl, you'll find the electric fiddle was the prime instrument in the early days. 548 copies and out Feb. 5.

    Finally, A Fire

    After many delays, the Loren Connors'  A Fire one-sided LP is completed! This 350-edition, 180-gram record captures Loren at a performance in Philadelphia in 2010. Features jacket cover and insert of Connors' cut/paste remodeling of photos -- both are handscreened by Alan Sherry at Siwa. Many copies have been pre-ordered and already spoken for. We only have about 100 left as of today -- so act quick.

    Akira Sakata collaborated with Hijokaidan on two new albums out now on Doubt Music -- Made in Japan and Made in Studio. Volcanic Tongue gushed rightly so about the studio session: 

    "Incredible studio set that sees legendary Japanese free jazz saxophonist Akira Sakata united with ‘Kings Of Noise’ Hijokaidan: it makes instant sense, the Japanese psych/noise underground developed in direct parallel to its free jazz scene, with countless instances of flux and cross-pollination, especially via vanguard figures like Masayuki Takayanagi, Kaoru Abe, the late bassist Motoharu Yoshizawa, Sabu Toyozumi, Keiji Haino’s Lost Aaraff and, of course, saxophonist Akira Sakata. Sakata has been on a roll of late, historically he has been one of the key Japanese free thinkers, playing with most of the heavyweights to come out of that country’s avant garde scene while reaching out to internationalists like Peter Brotzmann. Hijokaidan’s free-form noise music obviously owes a great deal to the ecstasies of late-60s/70s fire music and this stunning studio dates lets you get your head all the way inside the horn...."
